Program Overview
HansPhotoX Youth Photography Program is co-founded and personally taught by Associate Professor Xuehan Xu—renowned photographic artist, Director of University Photography Programs, and EB1-A Extraordinary Ability Talent—and Associate Professor Xiaolu Sun, a senior faculty member from top Chinese photography institutions and a well-known curator for major photography festivals.
This program is designed specifically for Chinese youth aged 12–18 in the DFW area,, focusing on developing their visual literacy and creative expression. Its curriculum is modeled after undergraduate training frameworks used in leading photography schools and enriched with concepts from visual literacy education. Tailored to the developmental needs of teenagers, HansPhotoX offers two core course tracks aimed at systematically nurturing students’ powers of observation, expressive skills, and visual thinking.
Through guided instruction, students learn to document their growth and express themselves through the lens, laying a strong foundation for future portfolio development and interdisciplinary exploration.
HansPhotoX Youth Photography Education

Beginner|Level 1
(Youth Photography Art Program)
Level 1 serves as the entry point of the entire program and is designed for students with no prior experience. It focuses on developing visual observation skills and introducing the language of photography. Starting with how images convey emotion and meaning, the course gradually leads students to master essential skills such as basic composition techniques, light observation, image structure, and the use of photographic tools.
Through a combination of outdoor shooting sessions and in-class discussions, students learn that photography is not only a way to document, but also a way of seeing and expressing. Each class includes a shooting assignment, and instructors provide individualized feedback and guidance to support the students’ initial journey into visual expression.
